Nutrition in the two-week wait: what helps, what doesn't
The two-week wait — the fortnight between embryo transfer and beta hCG — is the hardest part of IVF for most couples. Every twinge feels like a signal. Every meal feels like a decision.
Here is the honest version: implantation is not something you can force by eating pineapple cores or drinking pomegranate juice. But your body still deserves care.
What actually helps
Warm, cooked meals. Whole grains, dals, and vegetables. Adequate protein — paneer, eggs, fish, legumes. A handful of walnuts or almonds daily. Plenty of water. Gentle walks.
Sleep matters more than any superfood. Aim for 7–8 hours in a dark, cool room.
What you can safely skip
Extreme detox diets. Aggressive cardio or heavy lifting. Sauna, hot tubs, or very hot yoga (raise core temperature). Raw fish, unpasteurised dairy, high-mercury seafood. Alcohol and smoking — for both partners.
Caffeine: one small cup a day is fine. Do not white-knuckle a coffee withdrawal in an already stressful fortnight.
The most important nutrient
Kindness — to yourself. This is not a test you can study for. Whatever result comes in fourteen days, you did your part the moment you walked out of the transfer room.
